I know of the Anime Hell event.
However, would it ever be possible to just show one full-length anime-related "masterpiece", and let the audience sit and make fun of it? There could be prizes for the best commenter  .

they did that once, it was a terrible titanic cartoon, where no one dies, so many recycled scenes are used and they obviously disney ripoffs are the main characters. the best part? a rapping dog with a boombox on his shoulder. who would guess it during the times of the titanic???
it was terrible to say the least. we all cheered for the iceberg. |

Not quite, that's was the very first Worst Toon Ever, where we just show bad animation for people to... enjoy? We tried to do MS3TK for a couple of years but it just didn't work out, letting a whole crowd do it means too much talking, not enough funny. |

It's been done successfully at other cons before, with only one or two people commenting at once. Booting people out who talk while others are trying to comment could be a solution, as well as having a maximum number of people allowed in the room at a given time.
Also, the Titanic cartoon was not anime. It was an Italian cartoon. There is so much actual anime out there that has no other noticable value other than being MST3K material. |

Actually Anime Hell is not a "worst toon" type of event, it's a clip show of crazy. Though there is some 'bad' in there, the aim is more
towards making people say "what the heck was that?" rather than "Wow, that was bad."
The MST3K thing takes a lot of prep time and tech setup, and most everybody is busy with other events. It's something to think about, though. |
