I don't actually know if I'm a finalist 4 years running as I couldn't make last year's AMV competition (but considering I've been improving, I figured its a fair assumption to think I was a finalist last year). Last year I did a chobits video to "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. I did get an honorable mention though two years ago for my video "Almost finished" using Steel Angel Kurumi. I'm just curious what it takes is all. Fifth try is a charm?

You can't really assume that you will be a finalist every year just because you have been one in the past. These things depend more on the number and quality of submissions for any given year -- and on the predilections of the pre-judges -- than on any creator's personal growth as an artist. We judge the specific video against its competition, not against the oeuvre of the artist. (Meaning that we don't care if it's better than last year's submission, only that it's better than the other guy's submission -- and remember, it's all subjective anyway. ) In fact, one of our Criterion Award winners from last year failed to make finalist this year, so you can't really make assumptions.
