so did everyone have a good time ? what did everyone think of the "new" arrangements in the tcc? perhaps crafters corner could be located
differently next year maybe by the exit of the dealers room? it felt really secluded with us being blocked off with curtains i think anyways..

The Crafter's Corner location will definitely need to be worked on. I agree that they could have been given better traffic if it wasn't surrounded by
the gallery curtains like that. The signage we printed to help point out the crafter's location worked but still. The traffic flow could have been
better with a better location in the exhibitor's hall.
I've already brought it up with the one who is in charge of making our layout, and they said it will be placed in consideration for 2010. So we'll definitely be looking into it.

that's good to hear and it'd feel a lot nicer being with the comic market to feel as a fuller artist alley that way i was thinking one option could be
even the wrestling match be move to the opposite end having all of the artist alley moved up?

The comic market seemed to be poorly named, what with it not having any actual comics for sale but individual pieces of art. It was more like, maybe some sort
of alley lined with artists. Maybe you could rename it based on that far more accurate description?

We're trying to encourage the sale of original comics and even fan comics, which was present in a good number of tables this year. This name is more
fitting for that.
We can't call it an alley any more for one thing considering the set up wasn't even close to an alley. We'll put the rename to consideration but otherwise, the program book should have been there to help describe what you'd find in our illustrator artist tables.

Our table at the comic market this year had over 10 different comic titles (original and parodies) and very little prints for sale.. other than limited edition
silkscreen posters and postcard!
I think it's awesome that Yohrue and the rest of the CM staff are trying to encourage the creation of comics! I don't see a problem with the name as it is now since many of us (regardless of what we create- prints or comics) are influenced by the japanese comic style? Was the name change influenced by 'Comiket'? |

I like this encouragement of the selling of original comics!
We did really well this year and actually ran out of the issue 1 of Lucian Fallen on the Saturday! Ambitiously, my partner's trying to get issue #8 done this year! Thanks to all who supported us!! |

It's a matter of progression. The name change will encourage more artists to come up with more comics and I personally think it'll be awesome if
AN's Comic Market will eventually evolve into Canada's version of Japan's Comiket! Speaking of which... don't forget that the Doujinshi
Festival is merging with the Halloween Dance this year. We're currently ironing out the details with the JCCC and hopefully we'll have the information
out soon!

Yaaay!! I'm so excited about the Doujinka Festival! I hope I can have something new/original for this year's x3
I thought this year's AA/CM was awesome. I had so much fun. I loved the new layout in terms of how it was just one column of sections instead of two, because in previous years people would always get lost in the middle aisle and you'd have a lot of people down the center whose tables would get skipped. So that was great. I think there might be a need to more clearly mark out the areas of both Comic Market and Crafter's Corner at the site, especially facing where the brunt of the traffic is coming in (in this year's case, from the other Hall coming in where people would line up for the Dealer's Room); I had the feeling some congoers didn't really know what they were looking at when they just came in and were facing this vast hall of tables. Then again, I was kind of facing the opposite direction most of the time so I could be imagining things. Stupid question, what was that last cloaked off area just outside the Dealer's Room exit? There were a lot of empty tables in there and it kind of looked like a resting area to me when I passed up as there were people just sitting around in there with food and bags on some of the tables. |

ya that area seemed kinda random but i never really ventured past the crafters so i didn't see to much of it, and for the djk fest i'm definetly in
again : D

That would be the Model Room and where the items for the Charity Auction were placed on display before the event.

AkitoSouma wrote:You can call it whatever you want, but the Comic Market (or Artist's Alley) will still be what it is: some comics, mostly art prints. There's a lot more work put into comics with less payoff, so the majority of artists will still be making prints. The idea of a Canadian Comiket is pretty exciting but I don't think the name change will make that happen, calling it a Comic Market just causes more confusion than anything. I had people asking me where Comic Market was, as if we did have an area dedicated to just doujinshi. I know it's evolved from an alley, but I preferred the name Artist Alley since that's what most other conventions have been calling it for years. A more effective way of encouraging comics would be to dedicate a number of tables to the sale or comics, like with Crafter's Corner this year. Make it so these tables are allowed to sell prints as well, but have the sale of a comic be a requirement. With tables being in such high demand every year, you'd be seeing more comics this way- it would certainly make me be less lazy and finish my comic.</bigknowitallspeech ^^;> Anyway, I really appreciate the encouragement of comics from the staff. I thought this year went really well and I regret not taking more time to look at everyone's table. I was sick and didn't feel like moving all weekend but now that I'm better, I'm bummed that I didn't check everyone out. (It happened last year too >_<) |

I also agree with Akito on the discussion that Comics takes alot more dedication and creativity to create than a print does. Being an artist who's sold in
2 other conventions before, i've wanted to try making an original comic but from the competition, it seemed that it would not only be a waste of effort but
money-wise too. After visiting Anime North for the first time, i was just blown away at all the creative artists out there
This had been a wonderful experience and a big ultra BOOST to my confidence as an artist who does mostly original stuff. Thank you for the staff for encouraging an idea for the next 'Canada's Comiket' i'd really LOVE to see something like 140 something over manga artists, but finding a good printing store is almost impossible... my sister and i suffered alot from Fedex and Staples services @_@ Visit my Artsite: akitomaru.deviantart.com |
