The operator specificly put video games into the claw machine to make sure you lose and that he makes money. The plushes can be retreaved with some luck
due to them having a varying shape and offering the claw something to hook onto. The video games are smooth and flat and would be next to impossible to grab
with the claw. That's why they were in there, to distract players from the winable prizes and make them focus on the far more valuable but basicly
impossible to get video games. They were a money sink to ensure that loonies went in and little came out. |

Hey, that's my voice in the beginning! (the countdown)
Apparently one-try claw machines are illegal in Ontario except at fairs and conventions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claw_vending_machine Authentic Japanese "UFO catcher" claw machines actually have very little prizes in them and are based more on skill. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epB_33zc9Fg The operator must be chortling. It was apparent that the claw was set to a very weak grip. Thanks for the vid.

It's too bad you didn't see the "winner" on Sunday who caught the beige bear plushie.
When the claw returned and released the bear, it got stuck on the claw and wouldn't fall. So even when you win, you still lose. |
