I'm really glad someone brought up this topic. I rarely to never eat out anymore because I've been eating healthier (which means I make my own food so I know exactly what's in it). Unfortunately I'm coming from 5 hours away and there's no mini-fridge in my hotel room >_<. I've been brainstorming ideas, so I thought I'd share what I've come up with (for those of you staying in a place without a fridge).

-bring your own bread! I don't recommend the whole loaf unless you can burn through it in 3 days (which is bad anyway!), but it can have a variety of great uses. For example, I can't eat Subway bread because I react badly to it, but if I'm in the mood for ham or turkey or chicken I can just order a sandwich-- without the bread. Then I can put their ingredients in my own bread. It's pricey, but the meat and veggies are fresh and kept cool so there's no concern over temperature-related bacteria

-bring fruit! A good deal of fruit doesn't need refrigerating at all, like apples, oranges, bananas

-if you're worried about not getting enough veggies, you can always get a salad to go from Swiss Chalet. Failing that, bring cans of V8 with you! If you don't like normal V8, try the low-sodium or flavored kind and you might be surprised.

-nuts! excellent source of protein, and they sell them unsalted if you're worried about sodium intake or just hate salt (like me ^_^). However keep in mind that with a con of 15000+ people, someone is BOUND to have a nut allergy so they might be best consumed in your own hotel room.

-tuna/salmon + can opener and whatever you want to add to it. My favorite tuna recipe involves vinegar, olive oil, and a few spices, all of which don't need to be kept cold. You can bring the necessary ingredients in a small bag. It's stinky though, so you may want to eat it away from your table (and at your competitor's! ha ha ).

-Make a couple meals before you go and freeze them, and don't take them out until right when you're leaving. They'll thaw out slowly and should be good for at least Friday.

-Cereal! Great for snacking and as a breakfast food. If you want it for breakfast you can use the hotel-provided glasses as a cup, and I imagine most hotels will have a little store where you can get a small carton of milk. Bring a spoon, just in case.

-Granola bars

-Don't forget, hotels have ice machines! If there's something you absolutely need cold, get a bucket of ice and put the food in there.

-MOST IMPORTANT: Bring a reusable bottle of water!

Whatever you decide to do, be sure to plan out your food plan before the day starts. That way you aren't dying of hunger if you're alone at your table.
