Twilight Cast |
Lead | |
|
So the Twilight cast is scheduled to be in Canada starting in march maybe if Anime North contacted them we could get them to Anime North! They made many
appearances last year and would probably come here if only someone would send out the invite! I talked with some one who was on the crew and he said that
Stephanie Meyer and the new director agreed that they need to get alot of publicity out there for New Moon and personal appearances are a great start but they
would need invites!!!

Twilight is a novel with a live-action movie and has absolutely nothing to do with the genres covered by Anime North (anime, manga, video games, and Japanese
culture). I don't see why they'd even consider coming to an unrelated convention, nor why it would be a good idea in the first place.

Please please please no Twilight! It has taken over most of the female minds of my school (except me and a couple others) and I don't think Twilight +
anime make a good mix.

Don't worry, we'll be leaving Twilight guests for the conventions that cover media, fantasy, movies etc.
Well, on a personal note, there is one "Twilight" guest I wouldn't mind seeing at AN : http://shinga.deviantart....p-Twilight-Sucks-85504254 |

Actually all over the globe the Twilight series has been redone. There is a Twilight manga out and lots of other interests you know what star wars isn't
anime or manga and I still see stupid people dressed up like that at cons! It was just a suggestion people don't need to be so immature as to bash it in
its entirety!

Ah, but the thing about the so called "stupid people" dressed up as characters that aren't from anime and such is that they aren't invited
guests. Unfortunately for every person who likes Twilight there are just as many of us who don't like the books.
And just a pointer it doesn't matter who a person is dressed up as, cosplay is still a part of a convention so whether dressing up like a Klingon or Han Solo makes a person "stupid" or not it shouldn't matter. Twilight has its place in other conventions. It isn't a huge part of Otaku culture and would likely be something less people at the convention would enjoy then those who'd rather have people from actual anime or manga series being there. And just as a little comment about the series people either love it or absolutely hate it. There is no happy medium when it comes to said series. Expect people to come out and bash it when it is mentioned on any website. ^_^ Just as there will be people who will squeel with glee over it. People have their oppinions on the series if you don't like them bashing it then ignore them. It's the best thing you can do. |

mommysarah wrote: 1) The fact that a Twilight manga exists is entirely irrelevant, because the actors from the movie have absolutely no involvement in that. 2) Cosplayers can wear whatever they wish to a convention because the convention isn't paying them to be there. Guests for anime cons generally have some involvement in the creation of various anime, manga or, occasionally, video games. The Twilight actors were in the Twilight movie. That's it. They have nothing to do with any of the genres that AN covers, and as such, there's no valid reason (other than being a draw for fans) for them to be there. If you want to see them so badly, why not see them at their appearance in March that you mentioned? |

The only Twilight cast member I could possibly agree to is Jackson Rathbone, because he's playing Sokka in the live-action adaptation of the Avatar series
(Which looks terrible because Jesse McCartney is playing Zuko).
I am the perfect soul! All shall join to be one with me!

Actually Dev Patel will be playing Zuko.
Jesse was aparently unable to hold the role as his tour interfeared. |

Guess I did freak out a bit and bash it. ^^' Gomen. And cosplaying is pretty much just for fun. You're still expressing you're opinions and hobbies
and looking for others with the same likes. Which I thought was the point of a convention.

The issue with the Twilight cast is they are part of a different area of the business of cons, some have contracts with pro events and would ask large speaking
fees that aren't part of our planning and don't fit with our mandate.
If you really want to see someone from Twilight locally, I'd suggest you contact Polaris . They're a "media" SF con and I know they're always looking for feedback on what kind of guests people want to see and if they get enough requests, they just might try to get a Twilight guest, though with new filming schedule, that might not be possible for anyone right now. |

draiad wrote: The same can be said for a lot of anime too. Personally, I could do without all the Death Note, Naruto, Ouran, and Haruhi cosplays, but since they're almost a mainstay of anime conventions, nothing can be done about them and it pays more to just go and have a good time than it does to bash every single Narutard or dude/chick dressed as L that you see. While I totally can't stand those things, I don't go to an anime convention to troll, but to have fun with my friends and maybe meet people that have similar tastes in anime as I do (even if it means wading through an endless sea of L's and Narutos). So if people want to cosplay as the characters from that evil, evil movie, Twilight, let 'em. Just cause you don't like the movie (and lemme tell you, I hated the movie with a passion, yet I'm still defending these people!) doesn't give you the right to bash the people that did. So more power to the people that do cosplay as them. As far as the point of this thread goes, I'm also inclined to agree with the "Twilight actors had nothing to do with the manga/Twilight has nothing to do with the culture Anime North is exhibiting" point that's going on in this thread. Even if they were the best actors in the world, Anime North is still not really the place for them.

I don't care what people cosplay, they're not bothering me. But the last thing we need is a spazzing mob of Twilight fans waiting for OMG EDWARD to
show up. Could you IMAGINE? People would be trampled to death! XD

I completely agree. I love Twilight, but I don't want to see that. Ever. |

That'll bring a lot of foaming, non-anime fangirls into the con to see Edward glitter.
Personally, I am not a Twilight fan in the least but even if I was, this would be a bad idea. I'm fine with people selling anime styled Twilight wares if they're peddling art, but the con is no place for the actors. They're completely unrelated. |

Thank you | ||

I didn't mean to start a whole Twilight rant I just thought it would have been an interesting idea as how the forums are just a bunch of ideas. Thank you
for pointing out the Avatar park with Jackson I didn't think it would be such a big deal. ::Hangs head:: I am sorry I brought it up I wasn't referring
to "stupid" in a derogatory way I was angry people seemed to take my idea to personally and seemed to get annoyed that I suggested it. I love
cosplaying! My family loves cosplaying hell I have a 5 year old daughter who has now gotten full say in what she wants to cosplay and this year she choose to
do Avatar and Chrono Crusade. I am working hard on the Avatar costumes now for all 3 of my children. With the movie comeing out I figured do it now before
its to big of an idea plus she wants to water bend! Can you guess who she wants to be hehehe! Chrono Crusade well those costumes are not so easy so she may
only get to do 1 this year but I do apologize if anyone was offeneded by my idea. see you all at Anime North!

Funderful wrote:Unless we're talking actors in a live action adaptation of an anime? And the way I see it, asking the Twilight actors to come to AN would be like asking Dream Theater to be out J-music guests. Sure, a lot of the rockin' anime fans would geek out over Dream Theater (like how vampire-obsessed emo kid anime fans geek out over Twilight), but they are in no way J-music. They're not even K-music or C-music. Hell, they're nowhere even close to being from Asia. Yeah... Twilight is probably great to its fans. Just like Dream Theater is great to me. But AN is not celebrating domestically-produced art. AN is a celebration of Japanese anime culture, and there's nothing at all "Japanese" about either (except for the fact that one of DT's live albums was recorded at the Budokan in Tokyo...

I'm not a Twilight fan, but I agree that bashing it to the ground is pretty immature on anyone's part. I mean, would you like someone to bash your
tastes to the ground?
I remember at one Anime North, there was a group of Digimon Adventure cosplayers who wanted someone to sing the dub theme for them. I offered to do it, and we were practicing. Some girl came over and immediately threatened to kill me. Granted, she was probably joking, but she proceeded to bash me into the ground for my opinion. I was not saying Digimon Adventure > all, and she insisted on telling me that Digimon Adventure was bad (I didn't like the dub myself), everyone always says sub is better, so on and so forth. I ignored her and she eventually went away, but I never forgot aobut that. I know everyone has their opinions, but you never have a right to bash something into the ground. You can politely say "I don't like this" and move on.
