2009 Dir en grey Panel |

Hey I did the Dir en grey panel with 2 others last year. Was wondering if anyone would like to run a Dir en grey panel this year?

I'm not interested in running it, but as they're pretty much the only J-band I'll listen to anymore with any regularity (I have a huge distaste for
closed-minded people who say that all western music sucks, being a western musician and all), I might just check it out :O
But I am afraid I'll be the only one there who dislikes their early material.

Dir en grey are seriously the only "stereotypical j-rock band that the 'anime fangirl culture' that I despise is into" that I'll even pay
any attention to. And even then, I can't stand their work prior to "Macabre" (which is basically the era that all those aforementioned
"anime fangirls" are into), and while I love "Macabre" dearly for daring to be different, they fell into another lapse of quality until
about "Vulgar" (which comes off as way too goth-y at times for my tastes) or "Withering to death". "Uroboros" is so close to
progressive metal at times that I can't help but love it. One of the best albums of '08, hands-down.
If anyone wonders, yes, I do listen to Japanese music. But you'll hear none of it in your fangirlish rotations. Sigh and Bi Kyo Ran don't make for very good "typical j-rock" fodder. My tastes are a lot more experimental than the average j-rock fan So if your panel is open to people like myself, who basically despise every aspect of the "j-rock fangirl" culture, but merely enjoys the music of a great band that dared to break from their Visual Kei roots into something more natural, organic, and ultimately, true to themselves, then I'll definitely consider attending

@lauscho: My panel is not about ranting on fangirls. It's about the band and their recent and past activities. Where they were and where they are now. i
could give a damn about the lil fangirlies and fanboys running around yelling and screaming "Kyo is kawaii" Just so you know.
@Divine Soul Project: It'd be great to team up again! At least I wont be meeting a total stranger. The panel was a great success last year without the annoyance of rabid fangirls yelling out random things. We'll talk on the latest about Dir en grey such as their past tour and the upcoming tour rumours. We'll talk about Diru's latest fashion. Kyo's track suit "Yay!" or "Nay" Toshiya's half bald head. Die no longer has red hair. Kaoru and facial hair. Shinya = Always being girly, yet he has muscles. Latest music from album Uroboros. I don't know what kind of impression you're thinking of when having a Dir en grey panel Lauscho, but it's probably not anywhere close to what you think it'd be. Let's just say it's totally opposite to that of a Yaoi panel. To put it plain and simple. And I totally forgot I had posted this and posted another thread XP.... |

And amazingly the only thing I know about this group is that they are a Japanese band. Any fast beat songs that you recommend, or are they crooners? lol

Crooners? Lol I have no idea what the word means. XP
Well first, depends on the style/genre of music you like, because throughout the years, Dir en grey's style has changed a lot. Starting from very Visual Kei influenced music to now hardcore and more metal (that didn't start until about Kisou/Marrow of a bone album), but it's not all hardcore and metal-like stuff. Kyo (the singer) has a very crazy vocal range and a lot of weird "Squeals" and "screams" which I tend to like lol. I like them now and their music back then too. |
