People who go to an Anime con and cosplay non-anime characters |
Lead | |

Does this bother anyone else but me? Yes, I know it is their choice and stuff, but it's an anime con, not a comic book con, or a Disney con.

Yes! Most annoying! That's my opinion, but I adopt a non-interference stance because I wouldn't want to 'control' another and make a silly rule
about dress coding only for anime.
But at the end of the day, i believe that everyone has the right to do what makes them happy -even if it isn't to my preference- as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone's human rights. I may despise Disney, mock cosplay from Disney, and think they should go to their own freakin' damn convention, but then, if it makes them happy, and they are cool with it at an anime convention, it's not going to burn my eye sockets out or anything. . .

Funny, I checked the website and the programme book from the '08 convention, and the only thing I saw regarding a dress code was for the Moonlight
Masquerade Ball.
Does that mean, in your opinion, people who dress as - let's say, off the top of my head - Klingons, but volunteer to help with line-ups at the TCC should be sent home to change? |

Please do not attack me. This thread was not started as a "let's bash people" thread. I was simply wondering if it bothered anyone else. I do
agree with ButterflyFumori that it is their choice what they dress as, I just think that there is an appropriate time and place to dress as a Pirate or a
Klongon, and it isn't an anime con. Last I checked Klingons and Jack Sparrow where not part of any anime show, movie or manga. That is all my point was.
Not an attack on those who chose to dress in a different cosplay idea.

My previous comment wasn't an attack. I don't do that. Please don't take it that way. I was asking a question and requesting your opinion. Just a little lively banter. |

Ah, ok. I still stick by what I've said. I mean, you wouldn't go to a Star Trek con dressed as Chi or Inu-Yasha, would you?

I would. Cosplay is meant to be fun, not serious business, so I see no reason why I shouldn't make use of any costume I like wearing. Cosplay is icing on
the cake at a con, not mandatory, so Ewok cosplay at AN or Gundam cosplay at Polaris fits right in with all the attendees and guests in jeans and t-shirts.

You would be surprised. Actually someone at Polaris (aka Toronto Trek), who won two awards in the masquerade went as Dr. Muraki from Yami no Matsuei. AN ANIME
COSTUME AT A SCI-FI CON *le gasp!*
Also I was at Comic Con in SanDiego. I didn't think twice about wearing my Princess Neptune dress *le gasp* Anime AGAIN! There were lots of anime and other characters at that con. I don't know why people are bothered by it. The same ammount of effort goes into each costume that's made. |
