I think it would be neat to see what people are going to wear, in addition to helping people who are unsure if their outfits are appropriate.
Plus, we generate examples of what's ok and what's not for others to see.
We're not that strict, but excited people are asking questions and I'd like them to get their answers :-)
We'll do our best to answer asap :-)
We agree 100% with these guidelines, however, we are not expecting everyone to conform to that standard.
The dress code has been somewhat modified.
Dress Code Summary revised April 6th, 2008
Look nice and clean! The whole raison d'etre for the event is to have fun and dress in a manner you would not for the J-Pop dance. :-)
The dress code applies to costumes as well as civvies.
- Costumes are encouraged! Lots of people have worn them in the past, keep them coming! Masks are encouraged as well.
-
- We are encouraging "clean and presentable" costumes.
- Renaissance, fantasy, scifi, anime, manga, tasteful Loli/goth, princesses, Utena, Aeris, Tifa, Lulu, Rufus, Sephiroth, Military dress (FMA/Hellsing, NOT FATIGUES!), Sailor scouts, fairies, LotR, elves, Harry Potter school uniforms, Star Trek uniforms, etc are all good examples. See this link for ideas and inspirations : http://www.fuunsaiki.com/cosplayguide/
- We are encouraging "clean and presentable" costumes.
- You do not have to wear a dress or suit! "Smart Casual" Ex:- job interview-quality shirt and pants with
clean shoes are fine.
- Dress "up" if you don't know what to wear, not "down".
- Dress in a manner that will not make you feel uncomfortable watching Renaissance dancing or if the person sitting next to you is wearing a suit or a dress.
- There will be renaissance dancing and that means classical-type music. for intervals throughout the night with 80's music as well.
- This is not a loud, pumping-music event, if that's your cup of tea (or Red Bull).
- as for skirt lengths, if you can feel elegant renaissance dancing in a miniskirt and *not* feel out of place, power to you and go right ahead.
- no bikinis on men or women. tops or bottoms. I guess on a guy that's a speedo.
- Shoes: Mary janes, ballet flats, dress sandals, knee-highs, heels, ankle boots, witch boots, elf boots, etc = ok. We are going with "clean and presentable footwear".
- Gorilla suit with a bowtie
- jeans! t-shirts! hoodies, sweats of any kind! "Hey, check out my serial killer costume! I look just like I do all the time! Bwa ha ha!".
- don't be that person trying to convince us that your ripped jeans are part of your Nana "Black Stones" costume. If you're going to go punk, go glam!
- Specific examples that won't work: "L" from Death Note, certain Naruto costumes, etc.
- Dirty, torn, shoes, costumes or clothing. (Unless you're a zombie!)
- Nothing that will cause a problem on the dance floor that comprimise mobility (ex giant mechs).
And yes, since it is a private, ticketed function with a dress code we are allowed to tell people (regular con-goers, staff, etc) to go change or scalp their ticket. :-)
We would like to avoid telling someone that at all costs, please, please, please don't make us do it because we want everyone to have a good time while respecting the event's guidelines.
:-p
That all said, post away!
