Seems to be that crazy time of year again! Amidst work, homework, housework and cosplay, we panelists rise from the ashes to prepare our presentations once again!
Ok silly introduction aside, I am once again hoping to host a Japanese foods workshop panel for this year. I once again bow down before the Panel God, Fingers, and demi-god, XWayfarer, in hopes of obtaining a sacred double slot to host this, as last year's longer workshop was a success, and as we will never have enough time to serve my fellow con-goers tasty and exotic japanese foods.
Now, this being the third year running of Japanese foods by myself and my hopefully returning co-conspirators Polaris and Cinnayum, I was thinking of possibly making a few modifications to the format of the workshop. The main changes would be 1) More food! 2) Less live cooking, to be able to 3) Eat more and actually be able to share comments on the stuff we are making!
Last year was great, but once again the food did not all cook fast enough to be able to feed everyone, some recipes didn't get done, and we were so rushed by the end to feed the loyal participators who stayed till the end that I feel a change is needed.
So here is my main suggestion: For this year, I see a lot more emphasis being put on variety instead of on just easy recipes everybody can do at home. I would prepare some of the foods at home in advance, prepare some (read two - three maximum) easier recipes live, and therefore have a lot more to have everybody try out, and a lot more time for people to sit around and discuss! We could actually arrange it so that people could be making some of the food themselves as well; example: actually bring the Make your own Onigiri concept to fruition!
So once again this is where you come in! What do you con-goers want to eat?? Natto? Mochi? Oden? What do you con-goers want to see us make? What are your favorite recipes?
Want to contribute your skills by taking the floor with us? Then welcome!
We'll be taking comments, questions and suggestions! To your chopsticks!
PS. The Japanese food panel does not endorse eating chicken raw.
