Problems at Anime North website |

|
The Anime North website is currently under attack by a very determined hacker, who is placing a bogus link on our front page claiming that the website has
moved to another address. Please ignore any such messages you see. We are working on resolving this matter as quickly as we can.

Do you know of any problems if one were to click on that bogus link? I know I did once before, when the link
first appeared. But I did not notice anything going wrong with my computer. Thank goodness! Glad you posted this because I started wondering about it after
not seeing the website up for the past few days. It's really a shame that hacker's do exist to create this kind of problem. Hopefully if the
hacker(s) are found they will be dealt with by the law appropriately!
Edit: Has any credit card information been compromised? I'm a little worried since I did the registration process online.

Has any credit card information been compromised? We don't store confidential info on the website. Since the site is kinda inaccessible right now. Will the pre-reg be extended a couple of days for those who wanted to grab them on the 30th of April but were unable???The website was back up and running before the 30th. If you feel you had a real problem, e.mail registration -at- animenorth.com, talk to them about it. |

I'm unable to get the main page to load for some reason. I get the red background and nothing else. Are you still experiencing any known problems?

Iczer eh wrote:No, no it is NOT up and running. The main page at animenorth.com does not show any data at all. The painpage contains a short Java script to send http://www.animenorth.com/main/ but it doesn't actually work, at least not on IE7 or IE8 with or without compatability mode. No offense, but whoever you have running the website, really needs to learn to actually test stuff. Your website, that is, the address that Google spits out when you search for 'Anime North' yeilds nothing but a field of red for at least the most popular and most used web browser on the internet and apparently you've cluelessly had no idea about it for the last WEEK. |

DJIzumi1 wrote:Oh for the love of god. It is up and running. If you type in www.animenorth.com/main you will be taken to the main page. If that does not work, just go to www.animenorth.com. You get the blank red page. Click anywhere on the red and you will be immediately taken to the main page of the website. Make sure you try everything before you have a freakin' spazz attack at the Anime North staff. If you knew anything about computers and websites, you'd have known to try clicking the red and also have known an alternate route to get to the website. I know 3 different ways to get to the main page, two of which I've just listed. So breathe, relax and ask people how they get to the website before you freak out at people. Cosplays for 2009:

Amaya Hikari wrote:I wouldn't call that working. I didn't even think of clicking on the huge empty field of red. It looks like a page that's failed to entirely load. If you scroll up I'm not the only one who's had that experiance. Who would make a splash page that's made out of entirely NOTHING and then not even make the minimal effort to type out 'Click Here To Enter'? Also, going to /main/ is not going to the website. That's bypassing the main page, it's not what people will generally link to, it's not the link that Google coughs up. I'm sorry but webdesign shouldn't require explination, it should be simple and accessable. If there are two people in this thread of only eight posters who didn't realize they had to click on the broken looking page, how many of the other 13 000 people planning to attend to you think have had the same experiance? |

I didn't have any issues, but I was using Chrome - however, if the page isn't loading properly then there is an issue with the coding in regards to
compatibility with IE. You shouldn't have to click on a blank page to get redirected to the actual site.
Hopefully they fix the website quickly as many users have IE as their default browser. |

Going to www.animenorth.com/main is actually the round-about way to get to the website. If you noticed, www.animenorth.com/main was the page it took you to
when you typed in just www.animenorth.com, before the hacker got ahold of the website. And webdesign does not need explanation because there are people who
like be creative. Everyone is entitled to design their webpage how they want to, accessable and simple or not. Those who have issues with figuring out how to
get to the website, should go to the forums to check and see if anyone has found a way to get to the page they want.
"I didn't even think of clicking on the huge empty field of red." Well, that's you. I'm sure a lot of people have had the same problems as you, but once again, check the forums to see if an alternate solution has been posted, or if the problem has been fixed. Just about everyone who attends Anime North knows about the forums, or a different forum that still has Anime North information, such as Cosplay.com. "It looks like a page that's failed to entirely load." That was what I thought the first time I saw it, but then I thought "Hmm... they were having problems with hackers... maybe they made the link a blank red page to make the hackers think that the website was still down from their attack." Then I thought of clicking on the blank red page and, low and behold, I was taken to the main page. For all we know, the blank red page was put there on purpose and is not a mistake, but intentional. I don't know, since I'm not the person who runs the website, but that would be my best guess. To sum up what I'm trying to say, there is always another way to get to the page you want unless you get the 404 Error. You just have to think a little to find the solution. Cosplays for 2009:

Amaya Hikari wrote:If you noticed, making something require a 'Round about way' means you made it wrong. I'm sorry but it's a website designed to keep people informed about a con that is due in two and a half weeks. There should be absolutely nothing 'round about' about it. Round about is bad. The front page should simply and automatically redirect. That's what the old animenorth.com site did, it automaticaly sent you to /jamba15/ as the index and I figure someone tried to do the same thing with the new content management format but screwed it up. It should be pointed out and it should be fixed, it should not be tolerated, it should not be defended with 'round about' ways. It's a simple screwup and someone should just go 'Oh, yeah, oops' and fix it. Edit: In looking into it, yeah, somebody screwed it up. It successfully redirects using Firefox but IE7 and IE8 don't work with it correctly. And, considdering this is a website for a con of probably 13000 in attendance and IE stands strong as the most popular and used browser on the internet, 'Get Firefox' is not the solution to the issue.

DJIzumi1 wrote:Correction - "GetFireFox" is always the solution! That point aside, IE 7/8 security policies do not like redirects as it circumvents the general IE security policy. Perhaps instead of a redirect, next year the site should be placed at root not below the root structure. Or, set up a proper redirect that complies with IE policy.
