Are only books allowed to be sold at this festival? Or can you sell other things in accompaniment (ie. prints, some merch)?
Also, any estimates on the attendance count for this? |
|||
Yohrue |
|||
|
nitroglycerinkiss> That's it exactly. The early registration was open to interested artists who already have books present during the convention.
We'll be opening the registration for artists who are either planning and/or have yet to put their work into their physical form.
nikufei> Photocopy made books is fine. I think you mean the ones you just fold in half and staple together to make the spine, right? Nayukichan> You'll need to have a book as your feature sale, since this is a comic festival. You can accompany it with prints and other merchandise -that is to paper form print- meaning no crafts or t-shirts, or bags, etc. We'll post a more informative list of rules sometime in the next two weeks as soon as all the staff have recovered from the convention. As for attendance this year, I hear it's more than last years... I'm not too sure on an exact number but I think it's around 13k? We'll have to wait for official numbers to be released by the convention itself. So don't take my word for it.

Thanks Yohrue. lol I was wondering the estimated attendance number for the Doujinka festival.. It would be cool to find out the attendance for AN this year.. I
bet it's even more.. felt like there was so much more people!
|
|||
Yohrue |
|||
|
Hmm... I'm unsure as to what the attendance will be. It depends on the interest for people. (I hope it's a lot. :x ) That's why, feel free to
advertise where you want to since this will be a sort of old school artist alley encore.

Just out of interest, they posted the preliminary estimates for the entire 2008 con here: http://teahouseofthemaplemoon.yuku.com/topic/414?page=2
13,500 is the estimated paid attendence (paid + staff, dealers, freebies etc.) is at least 15,000 wow! |

Yea, that's really great!! I think this attendance increase has benefitted all the artists of the alley, as well as Jess's awesome artist alley layout
this year

Haha, you guys would have to thank the Programming and Operations department heads for that, but yes, they did a great job and considered us a lot when it came
to the layout. I'll forward the thanks to them.

will there be a fee for a table at the doujinshi festival (i assume so)?

Can we promote this in the other events ("the rest of the year") forum? ^_^

Yohrue |

It should be okay to promote it, though we still have to finalize the amount for attendee admission.
As for the fee for the table, it's mentioned on the little poster including what comes with the table fee!

I just found out I can't go. I was wondering, could I give a friend of mine who is getting a table my doujin for them to sell? I could give them a
permission sheet or something if you need it.

the $50,.... is that the price for TWO people (pay $25 each)? or how does it work? do you HAVE to buy in pairs? or do you pay individually pay $50... |

Finally Toronto gets it's own 'ket' or ketto as they are known.
They do have prints and other things which are sidelines to the main doujin they are flogging but the book is the main product. Most kettos are centered on themes like Girls with Glasses, etc. A friend in Japan sent me a couple of the program books for Mimiket which is biannual ketto for 'ears' (Characters with 'ears' like catgirls, rabbit girls, robot ears like Chi from Chobits or the android from Negima.) The program book has layout of the hall and a directory is the artist's business cards. The program book is your con pass. The program book cover is usually winner from the previous ketto's design challenge. Sketches and sample artwork from the artists also appear in the rear of the book. It might also be added that there is a booth from an art supply store which usually sits to the side of the main tables. One thing you might consider is to add 'zines' with an anime or Asian slant. Zinefests are popular in North America and will help fill the tables. The real thing is getting crowds to show for a doujinka Festival. Fans needs a excuse to cosplay. |

There are lots of cosplay & comic events in japan as well~
It attracts alot of people that way. I think it would be nice to have some cosplay-ish things happening too. |

CandidKage> It covers two artists for the 50 dollars. They share one table. It's your choice though, but even if only you attend by yourself, you can
keep the other membership for someone to be your table assistant. Basically, instead of registering as an artist, you're registering as a
"circle" or a studio group, etc. Payment happens on site, so as long as someone pays the $50, it's up to you guys to figure out how you're
doing that.
One thing though, and I'll post this information soon, but the registration form has to be filled out and mailed in advance so we know what you plan to sell and that there will be a doujinshi present at your table for the event. It's not quite a doujinka festival if one doesn't have a doujin. ^^ Also, we have to be clear that this is a paper/to-print event. So there will be no t-shirt sales or craft sales unless you're a dealer selling figurines and such. AnimeLondon> You mean like fanzines? Oh, and I know about the theme kettos! Also the kettos that are a specific fandom/event only. If there was interest on that, I would love to be part of arranging one. iherzi> I was actually inquiring with the masq department if they wanted to hold mini contest for cosplayers. Like.... keep the cosplays in the event manga-design only. Or your interpretation of a manga design.
