Print Trade Etiquette?

I really have no clue about print trade etiquette.. 8D; I know that there are gonna be TONS of artists I want to print trade with... but... how do I ask? and when should I ask? And what is a polite way to refuse a print trade request? XD; Please share your own experiences on print trading? Such as what not to do, any secret codes, etc..?

XD; I usually wait when there aren't 3029420347023 people browsing things at their table, and I don't ask very often though because I do feel awkward about it as well. ^^ When I do ask it's usually at the artist's table, and often they'll say they'll come by and take a look at my table to see if there's anything they're interested in. Oddly enough my first year doing AA I was asked by a dealer if she could see some of my art for doing a trade with some of their products. So it seems some dealers do "art" trades as well XD (mind you that was once in three years so :P ) As for turning a request down ... I've heard people use statements like "I'm sorry, I'm only interested in/looking for specific things" (funnily true for me because I tend to like more obscure series XD). Artist Alley Jam? AAtoast! I've traded keychains before ^^ And Perineko brings up a really good point. Also as an artist depending on whether you have table partners or not you might find it hard to leave your table to actually get the chance to go and look around at other artists' stuff, so sometimes it's better to let them know on the spot if you can. You could say something like "If you have any of ___ left at the end of the con, would you be interested in doing an art trade?" Artist Alley Jam? AAtoast! Last Edited By: Maiji 05/20/08 09:38 AM. Like "Will trade for other prints/keychains/etc of insert fandom(s) here"? Might make it easier for people who are shy to ask about it X3
