I will settle any issue on this right now. Super Smash Brothers Brawl is the only game of the Smash series to be an official game on the schedule. Super Smash
Brothers will not have two separate slots on the schedule and seeing as Brawl is the most recent iteration of the series, as such it will be a main tournament.

I see, that makes sense.
Since Anime North is for fun, Brawl would be a better game for all those who wish to participate, seeing as Melee would most likely cater to those select people who actually play competitively.
Wha wha, custom what now?

AlterGenesis, do you know if there will be any free time for the Wii? I'm willing to bring a copy of Melee for everyone to play if possible(and if anyone
wants to).

There will be numerous amounts of free time during the con. I'll make myself known to all people who show up, so just get at me at the con.

So, what rules and neutral stages have been selected for Brawl if any?

*prays for no items, 3 stock*
As for stages, this looks like a good list (it's been used by most tournaments I've been a part of) Neutral Yoshi's Island Final Destination Smashville Battlefield Counterpick- Lylat Cruise Pokemon Stadium 1 Luigi's Mansion Castle Siege Deflino Plaza Frigate Orpheon Halberd Jungle Japes Green Greens Brinstar Corneria Then again, we pretty much only used FD, Battlefield, Smashville and Pokemon Stadium 1. Anyone agree/disagree with the list? |

I wouldn't mind seeing a tournament where nothing is banned because randomness is all part of Smash Bros.

Rules will be announced at the con. Mainly to allow for any adjustment in time and schedule.

How a developer envisions the game is supposed to be played is generally not how it actually works out in competitive play (key words being "competitive play"). Sakurai's opinion is even less relevant for competitive play because, based on that statement, he never bothered to think about how competitive players would want to play the game. On the first point, the history of competitive play is littered with examples of players playing the game in ways the developers never envisioned. Here's a list of things off the top of my head that are huge parts of competitive play for specific games that developers didn't think would happen: X-Men vs Street Fighter: infinites Capcom vs SNK 2: roll cancelling to gain invincibility frames on special moves Guilty Gear X2: Sol dust loop, Slayer bite infinite Super Smash Bros. Melee: Sheik chain throw Street Fighter Alpha 3: crouch cancel infinites All of these tactics were removed in revisions or follow ups, so it is safe to assume that these all fell out of the bounds of what the developers thought
should be in the game. However, during the tournament life of these games, all of them were used by players, in direct defiance of how the developers of the
game wanted the game to be played. My point being, it is the competitors who determing the rules for the tournament, and how the game is ultimately played in
tournaments, not the developers.

I can bring my wii, brawl, and a few controllers. But I'm not gonna play unless its no items, 3 stock, 1v1. I can also bring melee as well.

I don't mind a Brawl tournament at all, but I'd atleast like to see a few melee setups and maybe a mini-tourny held by the players themselves =/.
Just look at Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Alpha or any older generation fighter game, there are still tournaments being hosted; why does all the focus have to be on Brawl? Regardless, I love Brawl but it's just sad to see so many people torn between these two games. Being newer does not essentially mean better (See: Vista), not to say I'm biased between one or the other. I'll be entering the Brawl tournament too. Edit: I'll be brining a cube with a copy of Melee... didn't know we could bring our own stuff lol =P
