If you also have any other questions apart from the FAQ for volunteers, put them here, and people (including myself) will try to answer them with our self experience from last year as well.

Thanks! The FAQs I read on the link pretty much answered my question. I just thought I'd be able to volunteer on Friday b/c I thought my flight would be getting in early that day and I thought I could help with packet stuffing/registration/set up, but alas... no flights out of California arrive early enough to get there until 4 p.m. Blargh... |

Even still, if you get to the hotel late at night (say 8ish) you can still help out with SpecOps, though I think I can bet my anime knowledge that it will've been night shift then. Until there's a schedual for AN07, that should be it for now...

Silenced Neko: I was with Convention Operations for Anime Expo 2005 for a little bit (had to quit b/c of a family emergency) and Hotel Liason/Administrative Assistant for the Chairperson for Anime Expo 2006 for pre-con operations.
What exactly does SpecOps do? |

Wow, that's is a very good background.
SpecOps takes care of; Security -patrolling for horseplay or dangerous people/weapons -missing person search Crowd Control -in high traffic areas (ie. gaming area and anime/video viewing rooms) -line ups -within the concerts and performances Concert Management (along side the staff who organized it) -restricting entrance or exit from the wrong doors/ways -keeping the mosh pit from expanding extraordinarily/from overflowing pass the line towards the stage Those are in general, but there is also another part of SpecOps I don't really know well of and it has to do more with security, if anyone wants to finish off after me, or if it was the point of keeping it secret. So it sounds a lot like Access Control and ConOps.
I'll have to see once they post the schedule and whatnot. I really hope the customs and immigration line won't be too bad b/c I really do want to be able to get to the convention by 5ish so that I might be able to at least volunteer for things (I don't think they'll have too much going on for Day 1... maybe?). |

If day one you mean by Friday... for me last year, the B-Style Jpop dance was something that I was looking forward to out of everything else very much, but I missed it =__=
Though, otherwise... there were some other interesting events that did take place during friday as well. It's going to be bigger this year, so who knows what AN07 will have for it's first day. As well, if you're going to volunteer, just from what I heard last year, it was either SpecOps or volunteering over at the TCC by stuffing bags and such (dealers room I guess?). I'd rather move around more, staying in one place and working with plastic's not really my thing xP -Natsume Hatsumi

I worked there as an Immigration Officer for over 10 years (I'm now posted in Niagara Falls - much nicer view) - as long as you're not arriving at any time between 15:00 & 18:00 hours, you should be fine, otherwise take a book. That's when all the international flights show up. |

I guess they'll have more information on volunteering as the con gets closer and then I can figure out what I can help you guys in once I arrive on site.

I have a volunteering question too!
So is there supposed to be some confirmation to know you're on the mailing list? Because I keep thinking I'm missing out meetings (that might've passed). And if you wanna help with registrations is it crucial to be at a specific meeting (time + date please) to help volunteer there? Thanks! |

My friend also contacted volunteering, and I see him usually at the library when I'm volunteering there.
Well, I've asked him if he got any email back on a daily basis, and he said no, so don't worry. I don't think you're the only one out of the loop. But regular volunteering and be organized quickly and as late as the week before the con if the person who co-ordinates it is really good. I'm sure you'll get contacted eventually. -Natsume Hatsumi
